The International Centre for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS) serves as the institutional foundation to maintain a permanent international scholarly presence in Aceh, facilitating ongoing research on both this region and broader thematic issues.

In addition to conducting academic research and training, our work hosts research projects and individual scholars, and provides essential academic infrastructure. We also work extensively with government, civil society, and business sectors to translate research findings into evidence-based policies and practices.

We develop capacity-building services to help organizations, businesses, and individuals improve their capacity to conduct socio-economic research from the perspective of poverty and inequality as well as use research-based evidence in policymaking processes.

We collaborate with other organizations in promoting evidence-based policymaking and informing policy discussions, among others, through public dialogues and research dissemination.
