About ICAIOS

The International Centre for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS) serves as an institutional platform to sustain a long-term international scholarly presence in Aceh. It supports continuous research on Aceh and broader regional themes that can be examined through contemporary Acehnese contexts.

ICAIOS hosts collaborative projects and individual scholars, while providing academic infrastructure such as library resources, a website, and knowledge databases on Acehnese society, culture, and history. It works in partnership with educational and cultural institutions to strengthen local and international knowledge exchange.

Beyond research and training, ICAIOS engages with government, civil society, and business sectors to translate findings into evidence-informed policies and practical interventions. Its governing body includes representatives from major state universities in Aceh, the Aceh government, and international academics, supported by professional management and volunteer contributions.
